A planned speech by Vice President JD Vance and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin at a South Carolina steel manufacturing plant on Thursday could expose a split screen on clean energy policies.
Nucor is one of the leading steel suppliers to the renewable energy market — and a vocal supporter of Democrats’ 2022 climate law. The Trump administration, on the other hand, wants to end renewable incentives in a law the president likes to refer to as the “Green New Scam.”
The White House said Vance and Zeldin will appear at the Nucor Steel Berkeley facility in Huger, South Carolina, to “deliver remarks highlighting America’s manufacturing renaissance during the first one hundred days of the Trump Administration.”
The White House and EPA referred questions to Vance’s office, which did not respond to questions about why the Nucor facility was chosen or whether the appearance was at odds with the administration’s energy policies.
