Committee approves Interior, DOE nominees

The picks will have power over nuclear energy, oil and gas, and Western water issues.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved four nominees Thursday for key posts at the Interior and Energy departments.

The panel advanced President Donald Trump’s picks for three positions focused on water, lands and minerals, and nuclear energy on 14-6 votes. Trump’s nomination of Tristan Abbey for administrator of the Energy Information Administration advanced on a 12-8 vote.

Trump tapped Andrea Travnicek to be the Interior Department’s assistant secretary of water and science, Leslie Beyer to be Interior’s assistant secretary of land and minerals management, and Theodore Garrish to be DOE’s assistant secretary of nuclear energy.

Beyer defended the administration’s pro-fossil-fuel plans during her confirmation hearing last month and addressed questions about offshore wind.
