A House Armed Services subcommittee will this week question Pentagon officials tasked with overseeing the military’s energy and environment programs.
The Readiness panel, led by Rep. Jack Bergman of Michigan, will likely question leaders — all serving in an acting capacity — on the military’s ongoing efforts to clean up contamination from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Democrats may also quiz officials on climate change and resilience at bases and other Department of Defense facilities. The subcommittee was scheduled to hold the hearing last month but postponed it.
Protecting military installations from climate change and trying to diversify the Pentagon’s energy sources have long been bipartisan priorities — not so under President Donald Trump.
