The Department of Energy on Thursday rolled out funding caps on for some grants recipients, a move that the agency says will save U.S. taxpayers $935 million annually.
DOE will now limit “indirect costs” of department funding to 10 percent for grants to state and local governments and 15 percent for nonprofit and for-profit companies.
In a press release, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the decision will limit DOE funding for salaries, facility upgrades and other costs.
“We are increasing accountability of taxpayer dollars and ensuring the American people are getting the greatest value possible from these DOE programs,” Wright said.
