The Senate voted Tuesday afternoon to advance the nomination of James Danly for second in command at the Department of Energy, with a final vote scheduled for later in the evening.

The chamber voted 53-45 to wind down debate on the former Federal Energy Regulatory Commission chair. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee ranking member Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Maine independent Sen. Angus King were the two Democratic caucus members to vote “yes.”

During his confirmation hearing, Danly followed the administration line of promoting “baseload generation.” At the same time, he also discussed the benefits of renewable energy and storage. The Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved Danly last month 13-7.

After confirming Danly, the Senate will move to wind down debate on Katharine MacGregor for Interior deputy administrator. A final vote is likely Wednesday. EPA general counsel pick Sean Donahue is also in line for Senate action.
